Well, it looks like there will be alot of new features and devices soon from apple.
lets hope apple keeps up the good work, advancements in technology, software and hardware will continue making users lifes easier.
things like smart device/cell phones, itv media center hubs (also HDTV including Blu-Ray), continuing development of more software and making apple an all media type system where all aspects can work seamlessly.
looking forward to the new stuff apple comes with.
I know this is off track, but if companies like Apple with the delivery of video content via the web and the cable and dish networks offering a wider array of on demand offereings, the day of hard media (DVD, Blue Ray, DVD-HD) are coming to an end. I for one have hundreds of DVDs, but haven't bought one in months, because either I see the movie in the Theater (the ulitimate experience) or I catch it in HD from cable. My DVDs are just taking up space in my house.
Sony and others can do what they want to try to force upon us another technology, but just like DVD-Audio, they're all doomed to fail.
I now return you to normally scheduled discussion.

One of the things that irritates me about iTMS is the fact that I can't play my purchased tracks on anything other than an iPod.
This doesn't currently affect me as I own an iPod but I would like to be able to use them on other devices as well (such as AAC compatible phones etc.) . This restriction means that I do not purchase as much from iTMS as I might otherwise.
I am wondering how much extra money Apple gets from locking users of iTMS into the iPod system.
Would 'de-regulating' FairPlay in this way encourage owners of other players to buy from iTMS and would this extra revenue offset that losses from lower (potentially) from iPod sales?

i very much like the new design - just two points of critique
1. the header is MUCH to big (height) to display on low resolution; you have to scroll down to see more content/advertisement.
there is just a lot of clear space - reduce it by maybe 1/3
2. the search button looks like - huh we gotta place it somewhere - but dont know where.
put it either down below in the first left navigation boxes or in the gfxbar that holds the 4 menu items (not as a menu item but below them - yes you have to make the menubar bigger (height) a bit.
else - great work.
and yes - i hope the forums follow soon, AND i hope you mix the mac os x style forum (you can chose that when you register) with the current design as well (so you got a mac rumors header but mac os x style forum)
greetings - a pc nub. (who wants a 2.4-6ghz or 3ghz dual :p)

I like the mba, but they are so god awful slow. Maybe im just used to fast computers but no way i could use current gen of mba. Maybe next time but 6 year old tech is a bit to old for me.
Nonsense. The key component of the MBA is the SSD. The MBA has coped with everything I've thrown at it. If the C2D was coupled with a mechanical HDD then I'm sure the performance would be very "2007", but it's a great little machine that can deal with practically anything you ask it too.

The entrance you ant is the one by gregs and hsbc. It's open at about 6am ;). If you want in earlier go down to the abbey entrance to the left is a set of stairs. Go down them and cross the service road. Through the fire exit and up the stairs and follow the corridoor. It comes out bang opposite the apple store.

I'm ready to tackle a project that I have been ignoring for several years and need some help. I have dozens of hours of video (vacations and WWII veteran interviews) on SD cards, Mini DV, and old VCR tapes, that has never been transferred or edited. The most critical to me is the content on the hard drive of my HFS10. It is full of interviews with American, British, and French D-Day veterans taken during a trip to Normandy for the 65th Anniversary of the battle. I really fear its loss if I don't do this right.
I'll be upgrading my Core 2 Duo iMac to a Quad Core i7 iMac with 16GB of RAM very soon. Unfortunately, the more I try to educate myself on how to do the transfer and editing, the more confused I become about the process.
I was wondering if someone would be willing to walk me through the process of transferring this video from its source to my iMac (without loss of quality), how to edit and archive it, and how to finalize it for playback on the iMac, Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. Perhaps there is a great reference book on the topic that someone could recommend?
The only software that I currently have is iMovie and I have never used it. I'm happy to spend some money on hardware and software to do this right, so all suggestions, from budget to extravagant, are welcome. I would greatly appreciate any guidance. Thanks very much.

1. Totally integrated visual sound editing, live with all the tools from Sound Track Pro. Who wants to go out to a sperate application.
Me. I'd rather have applications tailored to a single area than have one giant bloated one.
4. Of course there will be some sort of realtime compression as you continue to work. And the compression engine will be completely overhauled.
Whaddaya mean by this?
DVD Studio Pro needs a complete overhaul too and should support blu-ray authoring. Perhaps the bag of hurt is coming to Lion :-) But burners will be Thunderbolt external only, making it of use primarily to content creators protecting Apple's Digital Download model.
I think the only thing that's kept FCS's Blu-ray support limited so far is the would-be awkwardness of offering software that their driveless hardware cannot work with. I don't know where that leaves things. Perhaps Apple with pimp a third-party external drive, because I don't see them releasing an Apple-branded one.
I can't be bothered thinking up my own detailed predictions at this juncture, but I reckon if Apple pinned this release on revolutionising media management and I mean something that takes you right through the whole post-production process it'd be a gamechanger/showstopper/whatever-OTT-phrase-you-prefer.

A) You shouldn't base everything on the benchmarks.
B) Look at it this way. The base 27" is still the same cost as it was last week. But now you have a performance increase. I can understand being a little down that the performance wasn't as high as you expected, but unless you lost money by waiting, it's still a win.

Okay, here is an update:
I spliced wires to match the mac motherboard connector, and the addition of an 24V adaptor to power the 25V line for the Apple ADC video. see an image of the FrankenPSU here (http://www.systemdisc.com/workarea.jpg)
I flipped on the power strip switch, powering the PS (pin 14 shorted) and the ac adaptor. The fan on the CPU spins, and a motherboard light powers on. The hard disk, however, will not start up with the motherboard connected. Also there is no video output.
I know my voltages for each connector pin are correct, but I have not checked current or paid any attention to rails. I don't know which Mac pin needs an independent +3.3V, for example, and which ATX wires provides it.
I wish I could post on xlr8yourmac, but the forums are closed to new users for some reason.

Hello,
I am looking for the best solution to my home theater. Currently I have a 100 projector hooked up to a ps3, xbox 360, and a net book. I also have an ipad and iPhone. I am looking for the best way to get videos I download on my macbook pro onto my big screen.
Right now i download the files (to my MacBook pro, usually divx or mkv) then transfer with a USB drive, andopen it on my net book. I feel this is a cumbersome process. IS an apple tv what I need or can I make it work with the equipment I have.
I also would love a way to stream my music to that sound system. I am sure the net book could do all of this, but its performance is pretty awful.
Will the apple tv fair better? I am assuming I would need to jailbreak it to do what i need, right?

I have one and have yet to pick up any games for outside of the game it shipped with. I refuse to buy the crappy titles they have for it, I'm not looking at this like I do for the launching of a new system, where I will put up with sub-par games. I want good games for it. Its a neat piece of hardware with all of potential, but I'm not wasting 50 dollars are sub-par games.
But I do like the look of the sequel to Rez, looks pretty fun.

You could do without the RAID-card altogether and just install 4 drives in the bays in the Mac Pro and use the ZFS filesystem (http://code.google.com/p/maczfs/) to make a dynamic stripe in RAID-Z, so you will get RAID-5 like performance but with better protection and data integrity.
RAID-5 is prone to something called the "RAID-5 write hole" in case of a power outage, something RAID-Z specifically is designed to handle.
Just listing this as another option.
Hmm not really keen on a software based RAID solution on a non officially supported file system for the OSX, after all I want to run some new 6G SSD's off the RAID card too in addition to a RAID5 with 4x UltraStar 6G interface drives, so I would first and foremost benefit from the faster ports on the 6G RAID controller. I might also use the external RAID support/connector on the controller for an external RAID solution. Also surely RAID-Z would take some toll on the RAM and processor too where as with the hardware controller all the processing load will be handled exclusively on the controller.

Figured it out. It kept trying to relaunch because the wiki server was turned on for some reason(everything else was disabled). Disabled that and collabd quit.

I'm going to be out there... Question is when should I get there. I spoke with Apple Store and they said the Mall opens its doors at 7am. They open the foodcourt doors first. You know what that means... A/C at 7am.
Line to start outside FoodCourt asap. Let me know if anyone else is going, lets Meetup!

Oh now I really screwed it up. I deleted my default search paths since that was one solution I saw online (and it broke my program) and now I can't insert the old search paths back in :(

I would really like to see a cooperation between T-Mobile and Apple, since T-Mobile is one of the biggest net providers in Germany.
