But this (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/8fb970f6-556d-11db-acba-0000779e2340.html) is the speech, and it contains ONE mention of Apple. I mean, the way the news reports were worded, you'd think that he was saying rather more than mentioning it in passing.
All he says is that Leopard has a pretty good email client (he's talking about the richness of email in the future, and is obviously impressed with what Steve Jobs has thus-far demonstrated.)
He also mentions Geico Insurance, FedEx, and Marriot hotels. And YouTube, and MySpace. And Verizon.
This is a non-story.
For those too lazy to click the link, here's what he has to say:
Third, the high bandwidth potential of 3G will be utilized to take consumer-based PC functionality mobile. The Web N Walk services we see in Europe today is a precursor of the even larger opportunity in the U.S. market given broadband penetration and usage which has exploded over the past 24 months. A further example of untapped opportunity is mobile consumer e-mail. Today, only 5% of current consumer e-mail is being accessed in a mobile environment. And as can be seen with Apples new Leopard operating system the richness of e-mail communications is just beginning to discover elements beyond the printed word moving to dynamic and personally tailored image-rich communications.
That's it. That's the only mention of Apple. That single sentence in one paragraph.
WHY is this on Page 1?

I have one and have yet to pick up any games for outside of the game it shipped with. I refuse to buy the crappy titles they have for it, I'm not looking at this like I do for the launching of a new system, where I will put up with sub-par games. I want good games for it. Its a neat piece of hardware with all of potential, but I'm not wasting 50 dollars are sub-par games.
But I do like the look of the sequel to Rez, looks pretty fun.

That is the correct HTML. Make sure you're saving as plain text. If you happen to be using TextEdit, you can do so from the Format menu.
Ok I will do that (mine was saved as rich text format, so now I changed it .txt). I knew that was the correct tag, but when I open in in the browser, I cannot submit a comment. Any idea why?

You are aware that Androids are also sold locked, right (except nexus)? Yes, some are available unlocked and there are locks of unlocks available....wait, that just like iPhones.
carry on...
No matter how you see it, its easier to live on the Android environment that the iOS environment for unlocking.
Apple just made it nearly impossible.

The main reason I hate this idea is, I have a 3G iPod, which is easily apple's most poorly designed ipod.
You can FEEL for the buttons to skip or pause or whatever. Once you touch, you've already skipped to the next song. Having to contantly put on the lock button is very annoying.
To imagine just holding this and accidently activating a million options...
I can hope this is either a decoy, or that somehow apple has figured out something we arent seeing from the diagrams.
If it's anything like the 3G model.. NO! NO! NO!!! Bad Apple!
BTW What happened to the super hip anime style "none-touch" ipod?

Not working for me.
- I added "# 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" to my hosts
file.
- Downloaded iPod Touch 4G 4.1 firmware, and Shift + Clicked the restore button.
- Successfully put my device into DFU Mode (Power off, plug in, Power + Home, let go of power)
but nothing works for me.
I always get an error code (number 3thousandsomething)
Is there a way I can fix this?
I have the 4.1 file if you need it.
So when you go to iTunes, and do Alt+click, you can choose the file.

Hello, I have been trying to import songs from my iTunes library to my Garageband to edit them and take sections out as loops.
However, when I import the song (either by dragging or using the media import), Garageband automatically converts the song and removes all the bass. Is there a way for Garageband to not convert my music?
Thank you so much.

Either way, I like current technology, so I don't worry about updates after 6 months. I replace my computers every 6 months, and my phones as well. This was one of the reasons I defected from Apple's phones, got tired of waiting for a one-a-year product cycle for a phone that wasn't even the latest and greatest technology.
wow, that explains your attitude then. Apple has never been interested in catering to technology fetishists like you, and never will be. why don't you go post constructive comments on Android forums instead of negative ones on Apple forums?

i did try setting compatibility mode in windows xp, it runs but its sort of buggy and crashes often, i would imagine it would be buggy under windows 7 too.
Parallels and vmware are too expensive for me, virtualbox is free but win98 runs very slowly and doesnt support guest additions, not to mention it crashes whenever vt-x is enabled
any other ideas? :)

No one needs that much money. Assuming his wealth is around 40 billion, that's more than anyone could ever spend or needs. I say tax it all, and leave him with a few hundred million. That's still an insane amount of money. That way, he'd be paying his fair share of taxes, and would still have more money than he needs.
I'm surprised at you kavika.
5P, Let's boil this down to two questions...
1. Is it true that wealth is getting more and more distributed into the hands of the rich?
2. Does/should the government play any role in the proportioning of that wealth?
I answered your question... and you never responded. What happened?
Everything of values generated and accumulated within the boundaries of a state (by which I mean nation-state, btw), belongs to that state. I don't mind the state handing out money by keeping the tax rates low, but giving rich people tax relief is like spending billions of dollars on those who already have far more than they need for many lifetimes.
Seriously? Even a child knows that if they have $10, a bully takes $5, but then returns $1, that the bully didn't GIVE them anything, but rather TOOK $4 instead of $5. Saying things like the government is 'giving people tax relief' is backwards thinking.
No local, state or national government can govern or maintain infrastructure without some form of income, and an income tax is a fair way for every citizen to contribute to common needs. It is up to the voters to decide how much we all ought to pay..
And if that mobjority decides that they want to take all the wealth of a certain group of people, that's their right to do? Since they have a majority? It's pretty easy to get support from a majority of people to take other people's money and distribute it to them. It's just not moral. Your position is that individuals have zero moral, legal, or otherwise claim to the wealth that they themselves work for/earn?
I read a post somewhere that said 5P had left us.
Is that true? That would be so sad. :(
As someone once said, "He may be a bastard, but he's our bastard."
Did you just call me a bastard?

i have a G4, 733mhz. i have no problem capturing the video because i have Final Cut Express. what i can't figure out is how to convert the captured movie into a DVD burnable format so I can watch it on my DVD player. i do have iDVD and iMOVIE. thanks for replying.
If you export your movie from FCE, then you can import it into iDVD and make a DVD, I think the latest ver of iDVD lets you use an external DVD drive. or if you want just a simple DVD with no menus you can drag the exported movied into Toast & burn as a DVD.
When exporting from FCE you want to export it as a DV file. FILE > EXPORT > QUICK TIME MOVIE
Settings: Current Settings
Include: Audio & video
Markers: chapter makers (if you have used them)
Do not select "Recompress All Frames "
If you select "Make Movie Self Contained" It will create a new movie independent of the original media, if this is left unselected it is a reference movie that uses the original media to play. If you delete the original clips you captured in FCE the saved movie will not play. It is safer to make the movie self contained, but it uses up more disk space & takes longer to export.
This method if from FCP but should be the same on express. I dont use iDVD, so cant help you with that.

Anyone else know why the scroll bar in the diagram is on the left? Should'nt it be on the right hand side of the screen?
Because the bevel on the right size is used for item selection.

what would be the security problem?
No, you can turn it off normally. It's a security problem for some people to leave it on all the time.
Sorry I can't help with your problem though, but you should be able to turn it off.

I should have taken the day off on Friday so I could have left Thursday afternoon. I read about the good time you guys had in the paper on Saturday.
What did you read and where?
Who knew waiting could be so fun?
Whenever the iPad 3 comes out, I might show up 24+ hours in advance as well just to have a good time.
I'll wait with you.
