Battery life... feedback from anyone who has upgraded? Better or the same?

My battery on 4.2.1 was phenomenal. Ever since I upgraded to 4.3 (then 4.3.1, then 4.3.2), it has been noticeably poor. Would love to hear if this actually made any improvements in this area.

Not sure you could have been any more contradictory with those two statements. Your statement proves the truth in their latest iPad commercial. Can't believe how many people fixate on the underlying technology, insisting that the iPad is inferior to other hardware, at the same time that they overlook, or sometimes even admit (such as you have done here) that the overall experience of the "inferior" iPad is better.

Until Motorola, or Samsung, or anyone else brings a product to market that offers a superior user experience, please refrain from criticizing the iPad for what it isn't. Especially since what it isn't doesn't even exist yet. It's one thing to compete with your competitors, but not really fair when you have to compete with your own (rumored) R&D.

I never said the iPad was inferior to anything. Reread it if you want to. I just am not truly impressed by it. it's only slightly more scifi than a macbook air. It could have been improved apple just doesn't care to.

I hear what you are saying and I agree that the acronym soup does lead to considerable confusion.

In the literature I have, I see several instances saying W-CDMA is related to the CDMA family of standards. Perhaps that's the crux of the confusion.

Actually, it will be better than Garmin.

What they do, is they hire local people to watch you via the position tracking. Then, they can give you directions based on your exact location.

Imagine, "Slow down for upcoming pot hole on left."

That's uncalled for. I don't understand what the purpose is either. Why don't you explain it if you know so much.

$40k seems on the high side as a car for the masses. And would there be any reason for that price to come down? The trend in cars/trucks has been steadily up for as long as I can remember.

Great news! I was worried M$ recruited him for Zune commercials.

How awful would that be? I'm POSITIVE Apple had it in his contract he couldn't do that when they took him on. But that would suck if they hadn't.:o

I can't say I saw every second of the two videos but I did see about 95% and I didn't hear about multi cam . I do a lot of multiclip editing and was wondering how that would work without the viewer window? I assume it would still have multicam editing available? I hope.

the collapsing of the clips in the timeline made me think of multi-cam editing.
i am also curious how that is going to look like. Everything i saw put a smile. Look forward to upgrade and hopefully one day make a single penny. Darn it, not sure why i keep messing with it all this years and never capitalize on it.

A significant amount of the news on this site (arguably, the most interesting news) is a result of the leaking of trade secrets.

So what's our view? "Give us all the interesting info, then arrest the people who leaked it to us!" ? Doesn't that seem a tiny bit... hypocritical?

Interesting app. Unfortunately the place where my phone drops the most also has a funky gps issue. My iPhone usually says I'm located anywhere from 10 to 20 miles away (and yes, it has the pin point orb thing and not the you're in this general area circle). So I can report the problem but AT&T will get some random spot in the city and not the actual position.

Same here—I’ll have to set my location manually. (But I think the GPS issue is not due to my location, but due to an Apple bug. Lots of people on Apple’s boards have had it, starting with OS 3.0.)

I’m hoping this app proves to be of some use (not that we’ll ever know) OUTSIDE of big urban centers. AT&T does keep expanding their coverage in small cities and rural areas, and therefore they must be making decisions on where to spend. Having reports come in from a given location may effect those spending priorities.

So my friends who live in a dead zone will be the subject of AT&T outage reports from me. Likewise some rural relatives. Who knows—the nearest tower may get an upgrade (or whatever) sooner as a result of reports like mine. All of the above do have a trace of signal within a block, but it peters to nothing at their actual house. So close and yet so far.

(EDIT: I’d say AT&T’s online zoomable maps (http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/) are very accurate in reflecting these little local dead zones, too. Must be geography. So get taller towers please :) )

Granted, there are PC's out there with 200 GB hard disks and DL DVD-burners for about $500. The difference between those and the Mini, is that one the Mini is mini (just look at a cheap PC box side by side with a mini), and the second is that the margins on the PC don't need to support as much infrastructure as Apple's do. Apple spends a lot on development which they can't really charge for except through hardware and the occassional OS and iLife release. Imagine if eMachines had the burden of developing Windows Vista--I imagine it would force them to raise their prices.

Having said that I do sometimes see Apple hobbling consumer hardware for the sake of differentiating it from the pro lines. Hopefully that will change as the Intel chips Apple uses grow in depth.

From my experience with CF it is a very strong and light-weight material but I doubt it would be a good idea to replace something like the glass backside of the iphone with carbon fiber as it is prone to damage when pressure is applied to a very limited area (think of iphone + keys in your pocket)

For example cf-bikes are great until you have anything but a minor crash...the even the smallest crack can be devestating to the structural integrity...

You're comparing a bike hitting a rock at 25 mph while carrying a 200 lb man with a cell phone in your pocket?

Whatever you are doing that would damage CF in your pocket with keys is going to rip the flesh off your leg.

Just curious on what everyones process at BB was. I walked in and signed a sheet of paper with barcodes and a picture of the iPhone 4. I paid 50 for a GC and they put my name down on a list for a 9am appointment on launch day. I just want to see if BB has the same procedures everywhere else.

Yes, that is the same procedure at our BB, except they said they would call the day before to set up appointments. I was about 12-13th in line, so I hope I get one. Not sure how many they will get in on the 24th.

How am I supposed to submit a network issue to them if I'm having problems with the network? Should I take note of my problem and send them a post card later? lol, just kidding. This is actually a good idea and I like the way at&t is tracking these issues.

OS X Server unlimited client is quite expensive by itself, add that to a MacPro and see what the price diff for xserve is. How much is server 2003 unlimited these days, still pretty pricy if I understand correctly and that does not come with your backyard barebones.

Also there was something about lights out management (which I know nothing about) added to the cost of the dell in the WWDC comarison.

In other words hardware is one thing but the big picture needs to be looked at more carefully.

Also 1/5 of the cost? I'd like to see some figures. I can't even get 1 xeon for that let alone 2.

They should have add Wi-Fi, up the 400 Model to HDMI, 120GB Harddrive, then give the core 20Gb harddrive and Wi-Fi, and no HDMI. None of this werid 3rd SKU...still better then no Xbox 360 improvement, plus the kept the low end so I can buy what I want.

That's a great set of ideas, but if Microsoft did that it would imply that they actually have a brain or two and they clearly don't.

"I think and hope that people are going to understand. There is as price for being an early adopter and your points and feelings are valid (Penello said when referring to gamers IGN suggested would be angry about the new system). But whenever you innovate and change, you have to face this situation. Your same old system is still perfectly valid."

"We could never have done this before, to bring HMDI and 120 GB to the system when we launched in 2005. The reason we didn't do it before was because the HDMI standard wasn't complete. It takes time to develop these things. We started the console earlier than Sony did and when the HDMI standard wasn't done. At the time we were developing, this stuff was in transition."

******* off you couldn't have in HDMI in 2005. MS really irks me with this move. I wanted a god damn HDMI port....

This is such an obvious attempt to play the whole "lets match Sony" game. I mean come on, lets make it black (like PS3), with HDMI (like PS3) AND OMG 120GB HDD! IT's teh bigger than Sony!

um...but you can buy any old hard drive for a PS3, whereas your 120GB drive is almost $200 bucks...

    Yep...I agree wholeheartedly.
    Their excuses are laughable.

I hope my (recently RoD fixed) 360 doesn't break down after the 1yr warranty is up because if it does, I may spend my money elsewhere (ie Ps3 if I don't already own one) where at least I know I won't be nickel-and-dimed.

After this fiasco, I don't think I'll be spending much money in the XBLM anymore. I spent (roughly) $5 on 3 UFC videos (including Liddell-Ortiz 1) and for my trouble, I have 4gigs free on my 12g HD. (I say 12g since that's all they give us on a "20g HD".)

I don't think it would be a surprise to anyone to hear there's a generous mark-up on Apple products. It's for the consumer to decide if that's worth paying for or not. There are market forces after all, if it was too expensive, not enough people would buy them - but that doesn't seem to be a problem they're having at the moment.

Still, they are more than the sum of their parts, other companies are free to pick those parts off the shelf and put together something the same or better than the iMac for less. None of the competitors have impressed me with their attempts so far though. I'd be interested to see the cost of the 27" IPS display as well, doesn't strike me as a bargain bucket component.

It's not a bargain. Dell UltraSharp U2711 is a 27" monitor with exactly the same panel as iMac. Costs - $950. And given that monitor tech is not progressing anywhere near as fast as CPUs and other components (so it makes sense to keep these nice monitors for 5...8 years), to me, buying all-in-one computer makes no sense.
